Getting Started - Beginner's Guide

Tiny Rogues is brutally hard at first. Here’s how to stop dying on Floor 1 and start making real progress.

The Basics

Each run drops you into a dungeon with a random weapon and a prayer. Floors get progressively harder, with a boss every few levels.

Movement and Combat

Combat is real-time — no turn-based safety net here. You move with WASD (or arrow keys) and attack with your weapon. Every weapon has a different attack pattern, range, and speed.

Golden rule: Never stand still. The moment you stop moving, something will hit you.

Choosing Your Class

Your class determines your starting stats and passive ability. For beginners, we recommend:

  • Warrior — Extra HP and a damage boost. Forgiving and straightforward.
  • Ranger — Faster movement speed. Great for learning to dodge.
  • Mage — Starts with a spell. Powerful but fragile.

Essential Tips

  1. Explore every room. Hidden rooms contain some of the best loot in the game.
  2. Don’t ignore passive items. They stack up and can transform a weak run into a god run.
  3. Learn boss patterns. Every boss has a predictable attack sequence. Die a few times, learn the pattern, then crush them.
  4. Use doors strategically. You can kite enemies through doorways to create distance.
  5. Check the map. The minimap shows room layouts and item locations.

What to Prioritize

When you find a chest or shop, prioritize in this order:

  1. Health upgrades — Staying alive is always priority #1
  2. Weapons that match your build — Don’t grab every shiny sword
  3. Passive synergies — Items that buff the same stat compound fast
