Getting Started - Beginner's Guide
Vagante is a game that teaches through death. Here’s how to die less and explore more.
Choosing Your Class
Vagante has four classes, each with a distinct playstyle:
- Knight — Heavy armor, shields, straightforward combat. Best for beginners.
- Rogue — Fast, stealthy, uses daggers and bows. High skill ceiling.
- Mage — Powerful spells but paper-thin. Managing mana is key.
- Adventurer — Jack of all trades. Can use any equipment but masters none.
Our recommendation: Start with Knight. The extra survivability lets you learn enemy patterns without dying instantly.
Dungeon Basics
Each dungeon is procedurally generated. Floors get harder as you descend, with a boss at the end of each area.
The Golden Rules
- Always carry a ranged option. Even Knights should keep a bow handy for flying enemies.
- Identify items before equipping. Cursed items can ruin a run. Use a scroll of identify first.
- Watch your footing. Falling into pits deals damage, and some floors are trapped.
- Manage your inventory. You have limited space. Don’t hoard — use potions and scrolls when you need them.
Essential Early Game Tips
- Break every barrel and crate. They contain gold, potions, and sometimes rare items.
- Talk to NPCs. Merchants and healers appear randomly. Always check what they’re selling.
- Don’t rush. Vagante punishes impatience. Clear rooms methodically.
- Learn enemy attack tells. Every enemy has a wind-up animation. Once you learn them, you can dodge everything.
Co-op Tips
Vagante supports up to 4 players. In co-op:
- Share loot fairly. A well-equipped party beats one overpowered player.
- Revive quickly. Downed allies lose HP over time. Don’t leave them.
- Coordinate classes. Knight + Mage is a classic combo — tank and nuke.
